2 x 40 Watt dual mono integrated tube amplifier, 2 x ECC83, 2 x ECC82, 6 x KT88, new revolutionary high voltage power supply, resulting in very clean sound. In two wood types available, cherry and mahogany. Because of its 25-year existence, the specifications of the Unison Research Performance at an even higher level. This version is called Performance 25th anniversary, equipped with 6 x KT88 power amp tubes Genalex Gold Lion. The preamp tubes are 4 x ECC83, also Genalex Gold Lion. This special version of the performance is carried out with new improved output transformers. These have a higher bandwidth and lower harmonic distortion. All coupling capacitors are Mundorf. The top plates are copper-plated and stainless steel. The red elements can be fitted with black stockings.

Which sonic improvements can we expect from the new version?

The normal version was (and still is) so very good. Immediately after switching on the new amplifier is still clear that something extraordinary happened. There is a certain calm to the listener. This is due to the increased purity of tone, detail and spaciousness. This is to the credit of the new components. There is again less an amplifier to work, and this with a clear signature that is simultaneously completely effaces the importance of music.

The latest version of the Unison Research S6 integrated amplifier is the result of over 25 years of experience with building valve amplifiers that have been praised all over the world for their beauty, reliability and performance. Our main goal with the S6 was to create an EL-34 integrated amplifier that has compact dimensions yet is able to drive most speakers comfortably—even those designs with relatively low efficiency. The S6 uses three EL-34 tubes in the output stage per channel, connected together in a triple-parallel configuration that operates in single-ended Class A ultralinear mode. With this design, the S6 is able to supply an ample 35 watts per channel. Both 4-ohm and 8-ohm speaker outputs are available so that you can match the loudspeaker of your choice to the S6 for the best results. The S6 was also designed with simplicity in mind. Our designs ensure that a minimum amount of components are found in the signal path, because we believe that the finest sound quality is the result of an unimpeded signal flow. This simplicity also translates to an amplifier that is more reliable and trouble-free in its operation. Our dedication to robust and reliable products extends to the design of our transformers. Unison Research is one of the few audio companies in existence that designs and builds its own output transformers—each and every one is built by hand in our own workshops. We carefully match the size of each transformer to match the circuit—nothing is taken “off the rack.” This approach ensures the S6 will have a very wide frequency response, tube life will be extended and that this amp will last and produce beautiful music for decades. The extraordinary beauty of the S6’s exterior is practical as well. Unison Research is known for its gorgeous wood accents, and the chassis of the S6 is no exception. These wood accents, however, assist in reducing vibrations that can affect the signal path. The control knobs are machined with precision from stainless steel to extremely tight tolerances—we do this for both accuracy and for the wonderful tactile qualities of these surfaces. Finally, we have designed stainless steel baseplates for the tube sockets that act as thermionic reflectors and excel at dissipating heat from the amplifier. This feature is not only visually stunning; it also extends the life of your S6 amplifier. We spent countless hours perfecting the S6, and the result is an amplifier that epitomizes the Unison Research sound—warm, airy and transparent. From its Italian craftsmanship to its ingenious circuit design, we think you’ll agree that the S6 is one of our greatest achievements.

Three amplifiers symbolize the success of Unison Research: the Simply Two, the Triode 20 and the legendary Absolute. On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the birth of Unison Research, we pay homage to these historic devices by offering the Simply Two and the Absolute in a limited and numbered “Anniversary” edition. We’ve also decided to offer a completely new version of the Triode 20 and named it, quite appropriately, the Triode 25. The Triode 25, like its predecessor, is a push-pull amplifier that utilizes EL34 tubes in the output stage. The push-pull circuit includes a final stage with two power tubes intended for the amplification of the positive half-waves, respectively, and of the negative half-waves of the audio signal. The task of properly reconstructing the audio signal is then assigned to the output transformer which, thanks to its symmetrical structure, allows for a highly linear signal. Here are some of the more important and significant benefits of a push-pull structure in this type of amplifier design:

- Higher output power

- Higher efficiency and therefore less heat generated, with positive effects on the durability of the output tubes as well as a significant savings in energy costs

- No static polarization of the output transformer, resulting in better performance of this section

To ensure high quality sound in an amplifier with a push-pull configuration, however, it is essential that all individual amplification stages, especially the two semi-output amplifiers, are carefully designed and constructed to prevent the formation of dangerous and compromising odd-order harmonic distortion. This is even truer for the output transformer. The new Triode amplifier 25 has experienced a long and painstaking design and testing period despite the considerable experience already gained in the construction of its predecessor, the Triode 20. The Triode 25 can operate in two modes: triode and pentode. The latter is capable of delivering a maximum power output of over 45 watts per channel with a load of 6 ohms with harmonic distortion extremely contained across the entire audio band.

The original Unison Research Simply Two was certainly one of the world`s most successful integrated valve amplifiers, a product widely acclaimed both by audiophiles and the specialist press. When Unison Research decided to introduce a new, small integrated valve amplifier to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Italy, we used the Simply Two as our inspiration—and named it the Simply Italy. The Simply Italy shares many of the design features of the Simply Two. Both are single-ended ultralinear Class A designs that produce 12 watts per channel. Both use EL34 valves in the output stage and ECC82 valves in the preamp and driver stages to achieve our trademark wide imaging, clarity and musical precision. But the Simply Italy offers a wide range of new features that were designed and developed in our own facilities. First, we have adjusted the output impedance from 8 ohms to 6 ohms to make the Simply Italy compatible with a greater range of loudspeakers—specifically those of the 4 ohm and 8 ohm variety. Since a true dual-mono configuration would be impractical in such a compact amplifier, we designed a power supply which might be called “Quasi-Dual-Mono.” In this configuration, the power transformer and first filter stage the power supply are doubled, separating all preamp stages to the benefit of low crosstalk and low distortion. Since the very beginning Unison Research has dedicated itself to the design, development and manufacture of output transformers, conscious of the vital importance of these complex elements in the pursuit of best sound quality. Very few manufacturers in the world can boast of being able to produce high-quality transformers in-house. Thanks in large measure to these particular transformers it has been possible to create an output stage for Simply Italy consisting of one EL34 in a single-ended ultralinear configuration. This mode of operation for the output transformers allows the pentode EL34s to operate almost as if they were triodes. We have also added a unique feature that allows the user, through a simply toggle switch on the top of the chassis, to adjust the amount of negative feedback in the circuit. This allows the owner of the Simply Italy to tailor the sound for specific types of music, or even specific tastes of the listener.

The appearance of the Simply Italy has also undergone radical changes. The wood accents are now confined to the front panel for a more streamlined look. Contrasting circular inserts, also made of wood, provide a distinctive and attractive look for the controls. Two satin stainless-steel bands beneath the valves add a touch of refinement, and also assist the thermic isolation of the electronic circuit and output transformers. This provides a clear benefit to both sound quality and the overall reliability of the amplifier. The Simply Italy is supplied with an infra-red remote handset which allows the user to interface with the microchip control circuit; this manages control of analog volume via an RK27 series ALPS motorized potentiometer. Four large gold-plated terminal connectors allow any type of loudspeaker cable to be used. Every design aspect of the Simply Italy has been carefully considered: the control knobs for example, are turned from non-magnetic stainless-steel with a sufficient diameter and weight to provide a smooth flywheel effect with excellent feel and rotational precision. The wooden parts are important for the aesthetic design but also play an important role in damping chassis resonances. Finally, we have been faithful to the Unison Research tradition by making the Simply Italy an integrated amplifier. We feel that the advantages of integrated amplifiers are numerous: the entire playback system has been simplified, cables have been eliminated, and considerable cost reductions can be achieved. At the same time, the design of an integrated amplifier is considerably more complex and critical that that of a separate pre or power amplifier. A great design should avoid interference between the power supply, control, preamplifier and power output stages. Our extensive experience with integrated amplifiers has led us to a design approach that addresses all these challenges with elegant, solid engineering. When it comes to designing high-quality integrated amplifiers—from the legendary Absolute 845 to the new Simply Italy—Unison Research is well-known for creating pieces that ultimately become classics that are highly valued among music lovers. The Simply Italy will undoubtedly become such a classic.
